Bulacan’s name is derived from the term “bulak-lakan” which came from the flowery green fields in the area. The history that those fields have seen, however, are not as flowery.

Bulacan was one of the executive headquarters of the Reform Movement, which was established by the Filipino forces in Central Luzon during the Spanish and American occupations. Marcelo Del Pilar, known in history through his pen name, Plaridel, was the editor of the La Solidaridad, which was a newspaper printed in Spain through the efforts of the members of the Reform Movement. Several notable Filipino writers participated in the movement, including national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Gregorio del Pilar, known as the Hero of Tirad Pass, also hailed from Bulacan. He was a young general in the revolutionary army who was recognized for his bravery in the war against the Americans.

Bulacan is also home to many of the country’s notable artists, including several who have been recognized and declared as national artists for their contribution to our country’s culture. Francisco “Balagtas” Baltazar is known as the “Prince of Filipino Poets” for his impact on Filipino literature. His masterpiece, Florante at Laura, is considered as one of the greatest literary pieces in our country today, and is still being actively taught in schools all around the Philippines. Another great artist who hails from Bulacan is Guillermo Tolentino, a sculptor who has been declared a national artist, for his amazing works. One of his most notable pieces is the Oblation in the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, which has been used as the iconic symbol of the University system.

In addition to being hub for history and culture, the city of Bulacan is these days also known as a place of industry. Outside the province, Bulacan is most recognized for its production of quality firecrackers. However, the province also produces foodstuffs and other novelty items that would surely pique one’s interest.

Several houses that have been foreclosed may be cheaper, but it is important to note that these houses are sold “as is, where is”, and it is always possible to incur additional expenses as a result of needed repairs or improvement.

Prices range from Php 600,000 to around Php 3.5 million, be it brand new or forclosed homes that are available to rent to own. One of the more expensive options is a house and lot in Meycauyan, which goes for around Php 3.8 million. It is to be noted that this house is at 100 square meters and even includes a pool.
